Solo Leveling runs in three continuities: Chugong's Korean web novel, the webtoon adaptation drawn by DUBU of Redice Studio, and the A-1 Pictures anime. All three give Sung Jinwoo a game-like interface called the System, but they do not hand out the same amount of explanation about where it came from.
