Vault-Tec is the brand on every jumpsuit and lunchbox in Fallout, but underneath the mascot it is a business: a defence contractor running a federal programme, with a sales force, shareholders and a quarterly projection release. This topic keeps apart two things that are easy to blur, what the company advertised and what its own paperwork records, because an advertisement only ever establishes what Vault-Tec claimed.

One speaker warns that if you forget your place in the company you'll die, and so will your family, that the same will happen to the speaker if the message is not communicated, and that when the leaders of the most powerful corporations gather you tell them the only way to guarantee results. Asked who controls Vault-Tec, Barb Howard answers I don't know, and says this deal is going forward whether they like it or not. Another says the bombs will not be dropped by me or any of the idiots at that meeting, and that he believes there is another player at the table.
