Kaworu Nagisa is the gentle Fifth Child introduced in the final stretch of Neon Genesis Evangelion, only to be revealed as Tabris, the seventeenth and last Angel, who carries the salvaged soul of Adam and chooses to let Shinji kill him. Supplementary material has SEELE salvage only Adam's soul into him while Adam's body survives as a separate embryo, and after Kaworu dies, Adam manifests in End of Evangelion as a giant Kaworu, implying the soul was later returned to its body.
